Authentication & enterprise SSO

SAML 2.0 (Security Assertion Markup Language) is the enterprise standard for single sign-on, enabling organisations to centrally manage employee authentication. With SAML integration in Oniva, users log in once to their company account and gain seamless access to the event platform – without separate passwords. IT teams retain full control over access rights, and onboarding new employees to the event platform is fully automated via central identity management. SAML is particularly suited to large organisations, corporations and the public sector.

👉 Note: SAML 2.0 is currently available for Enterprise customers only.

Instructions

The setup of SAML 2.0 is currently carried out by Oniva support specialists. Please contact your account manager for assistance.

  • Active account in an identity provider (IdP) that supports SAML 2.0
    (e.g. ADFS, Okta)

SAML is currently available exclusively for Enterprise licence customers.

Use cases

  1. Enterprise-wide event management: All employees in a large organisation log in to Oniva using their Active Directory account, with access rights managed centrally.
  2. Automatic provisioning: New employees automatically gain access to Oniva during onboarding as soon as their account is created in the IdP (SCIM/SAML-compatible).
  3. Compliance & audit trail: In regulated industries, SAML enables complete logging of authentication processes within the central identity provider.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about integration

What is the difference between SAML and OAuth 2.0 in Oniva?

SAML is particularly suited to enterprise environments with existing identity providers (e.g. ADFS, Okta). OAuth 2.0 is more flexible for modern cloud applications and social logins.

Which identity providers are supported?

All SAML 2.0-compliant identity providers are supported, including Microsoft ADFS, Azure AD, Okta, OneLogin and PingFederate.

Can external participants log in via SAML?

SAML is designed for internal users with company accounts. External participants without such accounts continue to use standard registration.

What happens if the IdP is unavailable?

Oniva supports alternative login methods using username and password, particularly for admin accounts. Participation in public events is also possible via personal links, regardless of the IdP status.
